This is a common sight in a basement. An old clay sump liner and a pump that looks pretty cramped in that tiny hole. Whats worse is that they usually only go down into the ground about one foot. A proper sump pump should be much deeper and wider, this allows for more pressure to be released. It also keeps the pump from running a lot which increases the power bills and shortens the life of the pump.
