One homeowner has had enough of her stinky, musty basement.

  Ever wonder why that smell is coming from your basement or crawlspace? Most of us grew up knowing the smell of “Grandma’s Basement.” Its that musty, stinky, mildewy smell. Not many people realize that the smell can be fixed. The smell usually comes from having high humidity in a basement or crawlspace. That humidity allows mold to grow and spread, much like a flower spreads pollen. The difference between a flower and mold is that the flower smells nice and mold stinks. All you smell in the nasty basement is mold spores floating around in the air. Aside from the smell, a lot of people are allergic to mold and it gives them headaches, sneezing fits, and other allergy symptoms.   A few months ago, we did a job for a nice older lady in Brandywine, DE. She told us that she was fed up with the smell in her basement. In 20 years of living in her home she had experienced asthma, allergies, and just general discomfort. The problem seemed to worsen in the hot and humid spring and summer seasons so it made sense to her that the humidity could be a major factor. She was very happy when she learned about our plan to lower the humidity in the basement in order to stop the mold from spreading. First we installed WaterGuard perimeter drainage pipes to keep the basement floor from getting wet. Those pipes led to our TripleSafe sump pump system. We used this particular sump system because she was worried about the power going out and this pump has a battery back-up built right in. After all that was done to control the standing water in the basement, we installed one of our SaniDry air systems. The SaniDry filters out the majority of the mold spores, airborne allergens, and other particles as well as dries the air to a nice low humidity. The air that blows out of this machine is clean and dry, exactly what every home needs. She was happy with us because we fixed her problems and didn’t just sell her a bunch of stuff she didn’t need or want.   After a few months of having our system in place, she called back to express how happy she was. She had not gotten nearly as many headaches or sneezing fits and the smell was even starting to go away. She even said that she was almost glad that she waited to get the problem fixed, because who knows what she might have gotten before DryZone came in.
