Homeowners in Preston, MD Save Money in Repairs After Unexpected Crawl Space Wreckage

DryZone recently did an inspection for a young couple in Preston, MD. They had a concern about some mold that they found in the kitchen. They had always noticed some smells but

had not thought much of it. One day, they opened a cabinet and saw some minor mold. Thinking it was not a big deal, they wiped it down with Lysol. The very next week it returned much worse. They started to wonder where it might have originated and the crawlspace came to mind. After a quick Google search for “crawl space mold problems,” they called DryZone for a free inspection. After describing the problems and concerns, the DryZone team determined that this might be a serious issue and decided that we should get them seen as soon as possible. One of our team members, Brad, went to the home in Preston and met with the homeowners. They explained what they had experienced. They had never thought that the crawlspace might be effecting their 18 month old son’s asthma and allergy symptoms. Brad assured the couple that he would take good care of them and proceeded to do his inspection.

After completing the inspection, Brad cleaned himself up and sat back down with the homeowners. What he showed them in his photos nearly brought the woman to tears. The crawl space was in awful condition, with rotting wood and bare dirt. There was even a section of girder that had fallen completely off due to wood rot. Once they had regained their composure, Brad took them through the process of building a proper system to fix their problems. They decided that the CleanSpace encapsulation system was the right choice. With products such as the CleanSpace 20 mil vapor barrier, SaniDry CX air system, CleanSpace Drainage Matting, and Turtl entry system, they felt that their problem would be fixed properly.

They were also very happy to know that we had a six month Same-as-Cash financing program. This problem was sudden and unexpected and they had not saved for it. MoreHouse Finance Company got on the phone with them and went through the loan process. By taking only afew short minutes, they were approved for a home improvement loan.

We were able to get a crew in to start the work a week later. The homeowners were impressed with the professionalism and efficiency of the workers. They were able to complete the job on time and cleaned up after themselves. The homeowners, like many others, even told us that it was as if they were never there at all. Here at DryZone, we take pride in making sure that the yard, driveway and other areas are cleaned before we leave a job. Once everything was completed, the homeowners started to notice a difference almost immediately. Their son wasn’t having as many problems with allergies and the smells started to dissipate.

They later told us that they decided to remove the damaged drywall and cabinetry. Then they found out that the mold had spread all the way up the inside of the wall and had just about reached the second floor. When they pulled up the kitchen floor tiles to start replacing wood that had rotted, the entire floor fell apart. Evidently, the floor was only held together by the tiles themselves.

We have been in contact with these homeowners for several months now, just to check on their progress, and have learned that they are completely remodeling the house. They even stated that, had they not called us, they would never have found the faulty wiring in the walls. They said that DryZone really opened their eyes to what was a much more severe problem then they had initially thought. All in all they are 100% satisfied with the experience they have had with DryZone and its associates. They now have a chance at a clean and healthy home and ultimately a better life.
