A home in Newark, DE gets a new, level slab floor

Measured 2 inch drop in a foundation repair project on delmarva peninsulaA sloping hallway is returned to level with expert slab piering installation

Not all houses are built with a basement or a crawlspace. Sometimes the concrete slab is poured right on the graded dirt. This is commonly known as a “slab on grade” home. They bury all the sewer and water pipes right in the dirt, then pour the concrete right over it. Luckily, a slab pier system is perfect for this type of home.

A homeowner called us at DryZone recently and described a problem to our call center. Our Call Center Rep, Rob,  immediately recognized that the homeowner was talking about a “slab on grade” style of home. He set up an appointment for one of our foundation experts to take a look. When our Foundation Specialist, Bill, got to the home, the homeowner took him to the hallway in the middle of the house. Bill was shocked to see that the floor had dropped a full 2 inches into the ground. Normally people don’t wait until the problem is that severe to get it fixed. Bill immediately set up a plan to get things corrected and attempt to recover the 2 inches lost due to settlement. They decided that eight slab piers would be needed to secure the foundation floor. Since the homeowner was convinced it could never be fixed prior to calling DryZone, she was very relieved that we could save her home. Bill even called the office to get a rushed installation date because the problem just couldn’t wait any longer.

When the production crew arrived at the home, our foreman spoke to the homeowner and explained what we would be doing for her. Then he set out on the task of cutting the holes and getting the steel in the ground. When all was said and done, he was actually able to recover the 2 inch drop and bring the floors back to normal. The homeowner was so happy to have her floors level again. She was even more excited when she learned that her new slab piers were guaranteed for a very long time.
