DryZone Installs Helical Piers in Ocean City Home's Pool

Installing helicals for a pool

Foundation Supportworks by DryZone installs some truly interesting projects. Usually when we think of foundation repair we think of fixing a cracked wall or sagging floors. The helical piers that we use are so versatile that we can even use them to hold a swimming pool in the ground.

Recently, Mr. and Mrs. Williams of Ocean City, MD called us to ask some questions concerning the installation of a swimming pool in their backyard. Because Ocean City is so close to sea level and the ground itself is mostly sand, they were worried that the pool would either settle and crack or the ground would become so wet that the pool would rise out of the ground…and then crack. A crack is the last thing that pool owners want to see.

Our owners, inspectors, and production team took a look at the designs and began to come up with a plan. The helical pier is used quite often in new construction for homes, so it can be installed the same for a new pool. Once we screw the helical piers into the ground, the pool builders can come behind and install the concrete over the exposed brackets. The concrete dries around the brackets and basically bonds to them. The process of building a new pool is really interesting to see, they basically spray in thick concrete to form the shape and smooth it out.

Two crew members driving another helical pierWhen we presented the job to the homeowners, they really liked the solution. The piers will act as a screw, almost like when a carpenter nails or screws two pieces of wood together. They will hold the pool down, as well as support it against sinking. When all is said and done, the pool will be secured snuggly in the ground and Mr. and Mrs. Williams won’t have to worry about any troublesome cracks.
