This is a sight we get to see all too often. A homeowner is trying to fix the sagging floors in his home and goes to a big warehouse store for answers. The kid with the vest tells him that this jack is perfect for his problem so he buys one. Unfortunately, these jacks are for temporary use on light loads only. The SmartJack crawl space jack is meant to stay in place and, more importantly, to last.

This home had standing water, very high humidity, and bad smells in the crawlspace. The foundation vents were open and were letting in all the moist air from outside. There was no drainage system or sump pumps to get rid of the ground water. Since neither of those problems were fixed, the mold and mildew was running rampant and spreading smells everywhere. This might seem like a worst case scenario, but it is incredibly common across Delmarva. Most homes with crawlspaces are still unconditioned, or have been done wrong. Once you get the moisture and water under control, things like insects and smells will no longer be a problem. The best thing you can do to fix this is to get a proper encapsulation system complete with a proper dehumidifier.

Job Stories From Easton, MD
Prepping a Home for Future Generations in Easton, MD

Preparing a home for your family to live in is important. For this homeowner, she wanted to keep the home in great condition for her children and grandchildren to inherit in the future. When her daughter came to visit, she noticed a musty smell in some rooms coming from the crawl space. After taking a look, she noticed falling insulation and moisture staining the foundation. A DryZone inspector noticed a vapor barrier strewn haphazardly in the crawl space and knew the high moisture from groundwater caused the musty smells. With encapsulating the crawl space, DryZone also added a dehumidifier to control the environment and protect it from holding moisture in the air.

Leveling a Pool Deck in Easton, MD

This homeowner called DryZone after noticing a void underneath the concrete pool deck. With PolyLevel, DryZone was able to not only fill that void but protect the ground underneath from washing away and sinking further.

Wood Rot and Your Home

Wood Rot is caused by fungus which develops in damp spaces like a crawl space. If your crawl space has moisture, then that is most likely the source of you wood rot. Wood rot is not something that you should try to fix on your own. Fixing a crawl space moisture problem involves professional grade solution, and isn’t something that should be tackled as a weekend project. Filling wood rot with epoxy isn’t going to fix the real problem - you need to address the crawl space moisture problem too. The best solution to fix wood rot in your home is to install a CleanSpace vapor barrier and SaniDry Dehumidifier. This way the crawl space will dry out. Then you can sister the wood that is damaged with clean, dry wood and install SmartJacks to support failing floor joist.
